All Questions Ingredient Safety Certifications & Standards
Ingredient Safety
Is there arsenic in rice ingredients?

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element present in most plants, including rice. Axiom tests every batch and follows the latest research on safe consumption levels. Read more about our testing and recent research.

Have any of your ingredients been tested on animals?

No. Axiom Foods has never conducted animal testing and has no knowledge of any third party testing our products on animals. We were founded on the belief that plant protein can match or exceed animal-based protein for human nutrition, and our long-term goal is to reduce reliance on animal protein entirely. Some of the certifications the largest food manufacturers require — including the FDA's GRAS designation — call for toxicological safety data, which we satisfy using existing published studies rather than commissioning new animal research. Any studies referenced predate Axiom and were never conducted using our products.

Certifications & Standards
What does non-GMO (GMO-free, BT63 compliant) mean?
GMO stands for "Genetically Modified Organism" — a plant whose DNA has been artificially altered through human intervention rather than natural reproduction. Health authorities and environmental scientists have raised concerns that cultivating and consuming genetically modified crops may carry risks to human, animal, and environmental health. For that reason, Axiom sources exclusively from certified non-GMO rice paddies.

What does "GMP produced" mean?

Good Manufacturing Practices are set out in FDA guidance documents under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and are recognized globally. GMPs govern how manufacturing is controlled and managed, including quality testing of both products and equipment. Thorough documentation is central to the standard, so that any contaminated product can be traced and recalled quickly. In the U.S., the FDA enforces GMPs by inspecting entire production processes — not just samples that might not reflect the condition of the full batch.

What is an ISO 22000 or ISO 9000 facility?

ISO 22000 and ISO 9000 are international management system standards, widely used across manufacturing and service industries, that facilities can be audited and certified against to evaluate how well they manage product or service quality. These standards are maintained by the International Organization for Standardization (iso.org) and administered through independent accreditation and certification bodies. Standards are periodically updated, which is why you'll see different version numbers over time.

What is a HACCP facility?
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is a preventive, systematic approach to food safety — rather than relying solely on inspecting the finished product. It works by analyzing and controlling biological, chemical, and physical hazards at every stage, from raw material sourcing and handling through manufacturing, distribution, and final consumption. HACCP identifies Critical Control Points where targeted action can reduce or eliminate risk, and it's applied throughout the food industry across packaging, distribution, and every step in between.
